Credit Bureaus Research

Credit Bureaus has done years of research into what consumers want from credit reports and how to get the best out of your credit status and then put it all in one place for you.

We also take the work out of you having to go to 3 credit bureaus and then comparing your credit history across TransUnion, Experian and XDS. Get a Credit Report now from us and save time and money.

How to Fix A Mistake

If you feel that the information held by any of the 3 credit bureaus represented in your credit report is not accurate or do not recognize it, you have the right to challenge the information. Knowing who to contact in which situation is another way we are making managing your credit as easy as possible.
Credit Bureaus can only remove inaccurate information. Negative information that is accurate will remain on the credit bureau database, as it is required by law. The period that this remains on the credit bureaus database is dependent on the type of negative information. Investigations are typically concluded within 20 business days of the date the credit bureau receives your request. The Credit Bureaus will make contact with the credit/service provider concerned and request them to provide credible evidence to justify the information reported by them.

Credit Bureaus Disputes

A dispute is a challenge to the accuracy (correctness) of credit information appearing on your credit report. If information on your credit report does not appear to be factually correct in all details, you can log a dispute with the credit bureau in question. If the information appearing on your credit report is factually correct in all details, but is a simple change or update of your information you will not be challenging information but rather it is dealt with as a query.

Dispute Types

Factually incorrect: The information on your credit record is factually incorrect (for example, the listing on your credit report does not belong to you). This may include any court record, default, payment profile line, or trace alert. Another example is that you did not apply for debt counseling, but your credit report is updated with a debt counseling indicator.
Fraud : Someone applied for credit fraudulently in your name and you are now listed for the debt. To assist you with this type of dispute you will be required to provide the credit bureau with a completed dispute form, an affidavit and FICA documentation.
Out-dated information The information on your profile is out-dated—that is, the data retention period that bureaus follow in retaining certain information on your credit report has expired, but the data still appears on your profile.

Challenge Credit Report Information

You will need to contact the credit bureau concerned (TransUnion, XDS or Experian) to raise an objection or lodge a complaint by speaking to one of our helpful call centre agents who will send you the relevant bureau dispute form to complete. You will be required to complete and forward the dispute form together with the required FICA (Financial Intelligence Centre Act) documents and proof to substantiate your dispute to the bureau concerned. The Credit Bureaus will provide you with a reference number. It is suggested that all of the above documentation be less than three months old where possible. The bureau has 20 business days in which to resolve the issue. If the bureau is unable to resolve the issue, you should refer the matter to the Credit Information Ombudsman (CIO). Note that the National Credit Regulator will not be able to deal with you until you have first contacted the credit bureau.
